We are grateful to Frau M. de Kinkelder of the RKD, The Hague, for confirming the authenticity of this painting. Jan Lagoor, who also produced excellent etchings, lived in Haarlem, where he is documented as a member (1645) and then Governor (1649) of the Guild of St. Luke. His peaceful wooded landscapes are amongst the most harmonious images of this period.
